Advanced Certificate in Indigenous Caregiver and Geriatric Care

The Advanced Certificate in Indigenous Caregiver and Geriatric Care is a specialized program designed to prepare individuals to provide compassionate, holistic, and culturally sensitive care to the elderly and chronically ill. With Sri Lanka’s rapidly aging population and the increasing global demand for trained caregivers, this program combines the science of aging with the wisdom of indigenous wellness traditions.

The course offers a balanced approach that integrates modern caregiving skills—such as personal hygiene, nutrition, mobility support, and emotional care—with indigenous practices rooted in herbal remedies, therapeutic diets, relaxation techniques, and traditional methods of promoting vitality and dignity in later life. Students will also explore preventive healthcare and wellness strategies that support healthy aging and reduce dependency.

Practical training is a central component of the program. Learners will engage in hands-on activities, field visits, and supervised caregiving practice to build confidence and competence in real-life caregiving situations. Special emphasis is placed on communication skills, empathy, and ethical practice, ensuring that graduates can provide not only physical assistance but also emotional and social support.

Graduates of this program will be well-positioned to work in a range of settings, including eldercare homes, community wellness centers, hospitals, and private households. They will also be equipped to serve abroad, where there is a strong demand for skilled caregivers.

This program is ideal for those who wish to pursue a rewarding career in caregiving while contributing to the preservation and application of indigenous knowledge in modern eldercare.
